How would you like to see the south end of Grant park developed? Neighborhood park, bathrooms, facility for park district programming, enhanced dog park, decking over of the railroad tracks, etc? The 2002 Grant Park Framework Plan noted pending residential growth in the South Loop and the need to develop part of the south end of Grant Park for neighborhood use. That growth is here and the Framework Plan is in the process of being revised. South Loop Neighbors hosted a workshop to help identify a “wish list” of what South Loop residents would like to see happen in the south end of Grant Park.
The Framework for Grant Park was last completed in 2002, however, very little was actually done.
The goal for this meeting was to review ideas that have already been put forth by the Park District. This meeting provided the attendees a chance to come up with new ideas or indorse an idea already posted around the room. We broke down into groups and each group came up with three ideas. Then all ideas were reviewed and voted on. These are the top three ideas.
- Deck over the tracks
- Close Columbus Drive
- European type individual kiosk bathrooms which automatically clean themselves after each use.
Make no small plans seem to be in the air at this meeting. No constraints. What would you like? Obviously, the powers at be will crunch the numbers and look at which goals are attainable.
