SOUTH LOOP — The South Loop will have a movie theater again as AMC Theatres prepares to take over the former Showplace Icon space early next year.
The company is planning for an early 2025 opening in Roosevelt Collection Shops, 150 W. Roosevelt Road. The announcement comes four months after Showplace Icon abruptly shuttered its remaining theaters across the country, including the South Loop location it called home for 15 years.
AMC Roosevelt Collection 16 will be one of the few venues south of Downtown and one of AMC’s 25-plus locations in the greater Chicagoland area, joining other Roosevelt Collection retailers like Ulta Beauty, H&M, Fleet Feet Sports and Banana Republic. The movie theater operator has 47 locations statewide.
“In recent years, AMC has made it a priority to strengthen our circuit by identifying popular and well-performing theatres in areas where we believe moviegoers are underserved,” Dan Ellis, AMC’s chief operations and development officer and executive vice president, said in a press release. “AMC Roosevelt Collection 16 is one of the most productive locations in the Chicagoland area and fits perfectly within that strategy,”
Patrons can expect to enjoy the theater’s popular amenities, including plush, power-recliner seating and a full concession menu. A MacGuffins Bar offering premium cocktails will also be opening at the site, according to a press release.
“We are thrilled to be welcoming AMC to our lineup of dining, retail, fitness and lifestyle amenities here at Roosevelt Collection Shops,” said Deirdre Larsen, property management director for Roosevelt Collection Shops, in the press release. “Our center has long stood as a community hub and the addition of this highly anticipated new experience will bring with it endless opportunity for the community to enjoy quality time together on our grounds,”
AMC Stubs A-List members will be able to use their A-List account at new location once it opens. Members can also earn rewards through the purchase of movie tickets, food and drinks at the theatre.
